“The greatest tragedy of the 20th Century was the fall of the Soviet Union”—Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated on several occasions.
“Consider, then what the last dozen years of the 20th century must have been like for proud Russian patriots and nationalists.” (quote from Reclaim Our Republic” blog)
This is a great post gained from CNS News by Patrick J. Buchanan reposted on “Reclaim Our Republic” blog. In beginning to understand the enemy one must put oneself into the shoes of the enemy so that one might come to understand the enemy’s point of view. In this case we must put ourselves in the shoes of Vladimir Putin who is a Russian patriot and nationalist. To see Russia lose so much territory after the demise of the USSR. To know that at that demise tens of millions of Russians were left stranded in foreign lands. And to know that the USSR had been an allie of the US and UK during WW2 only to be turned upon by both after the war. These are things we must consider if we are to understand Russia today and Vladimir Putin. Once a vast empire just not under the Soviets but also under the Tsars, Russia today is a miniature compared to what it was not so long ago. Putin knows this and Putin wants to restore Russia to its days of glory and he will do anything to make that happen. He has determined that now is the right time and of this I’m certain. The US under Barack Obama is a weakened nation and is no longer THE international leader. Our economy is on the verge of utter collapse that will make the Great Depression pale in comparison. Putin knows these things too and he knows he can sell of US debt and replace the dollar with the Chinese Yuan any time he pleases and cause the US a world of economic hurt. He’s already taken back the Crimea and he’s amassed thousands of battle ready troops on the Ukraine border. He is sitting the stage for the reclamation of the glory of Russia.
The following post is very enlightening and a must read for anyone who wishes to understand Russia and Putin today:
